| Current cancer patients are treated primarily with radiation, hormones/hormone ablation or chemotherapeutic agents, approaches that kill cancer cells but are only partially effective and which have not significantly improved overall survival rates. Researchers have been searching for a more targeted approach that attacks only cancer cells, is non-toxic to the patient, and can improve patient survival. MacroArray has identified has identified a proprietary DNA ZYM oligonucleotide therapeutic approach for the treatment of cancer.
Our DNA-ZYM approach:
Specifically, a novel DNA ZYM oligonucleotide has been designed that targets the PCADM-1 messenger RNA. This oligonucleotide is termed PCADM-1 DNA ZYM-1P and has been shown to selectively destroy human prostate tumor cells and tumors while bypassing normal cells and tissue in animal models. In studies with highly malignant human prostate tumor lines, localized delivery of PCADM-1 DNA ZYM-1P oligonucleotides completely eradicated tumors introduced in 33 mice and reduced the human cancer tumors to very tiny nodules in 12 mice treated with the agent. In these studies, mouse survival increased to >80% over prolonged intervals of 3-4 months compared to untreated mice which all died by 2 months. In a second study, the human prostate tumor cells were allowed to form metastatic nodules in the lungs, liver and peritoneum prior to treatment of the mice with the PCADM-1 DNA ZYM-1P oligonucleotide by i.v. injection. In these experiments, the tumors were completely eradicated in 33/34 mice by <2 months. Mouse survival was 100% in all 33 of the responding mice, whereas all the untreated mice died by ~2 months. The significance of these results is that the PCADM-1 DNA ZYM-1P treatment offers the distinct capability to eradicate primary and metastatic prostate cancer in human patients with no side effects. |
